Golden Bears Alumnus Wyatt McLeod Captures Kelly Cup with Trois-Rivieres Lions

Wyatt McLeod is now a Kelly Cup Champion

From Clare Drake Arena to ECHL Champion.

Former Golden Bears defenseman Wyatt McLeod (’21–’24) has added a new title to his resume after helping lead the Trois-Rivières Lions to their first-ever ECHL championship.

McLeod scored in the Lions’ 4–1 victory over the Toledo Walleye in Game 5 of the finals, a goal that sealed the Lions’ place in history as the first Canadian team to win the ECHL title. Over the playoff run, he recorded 1 goal, 8 assists, and a +21 rating, a standout performance from the rookie pro.

Wyatt played three seasons with the Golden Bears between 2021 and 2024, where he quickly established himself as a core member of the blueline. Known for his size, poise, and shutdown ability, McLeod logged heavy minutes at even strength and on the penalty kill. He finished his U SPORTS career with 4 goals, 31 assists, and 35 points in 58 games, anchoring a defense that consistently ranked among the best in Canada West.

His transition to the professional ranks with the Montreal Canadiens’ ECHL affiliate was seamless. In his first season with Trois-Rivières, McLeod played 65 games and posted 1 goal and 22 assists, finishing with a +8 rating and earning praise for his consistency and composure under pressure.

Wyatt becomes one of a select few Golden Bears alumni to hoist the Kelly Cup adding to the legacy of a program that continues to produce winners at every level of hockey.
